Exchange Server Disaster Recovery - The
power of automated DB recovery
The power of automated Database
recovery is here. No longer do you have to deal with tape failures, backup
failures, or the fear of a database catastrophe. Welcome to Electronic
Vaulting at a whole new level.
How Exchange Server Disaster Recovery
works
Our DataForce software now includes
an add-on utility that automatically vaults your Exchange Server database using
Disk-to-Disk (D2D) technology. Full backups are stored at our Tier-1 data
center where they are monitored 24/7 and subjected to integrity checks at
the completion of every Backup Set. Differential backups are then stored in
an organized and structured fashion allowing for a simplistic yet complete
restore. Even the Transaction logs are vaulted so that you can have up to
the hour restorations if necessary.
DataForce v.s. Tape -
Capturing your intraday database transactions
Most tape systems aren't fast
enough to keep up with intraday backups. Because of this, most organizations
only do backups at night, not during the day. However, the failure to
perform backups during business hours could result in the loss of an entire
day's data if the database fails before the backup is performed.
Fortunately, DataForce for the Exchange Server provides us with the capability to
backup transaction logs even during normal business hours - a feature that
provides an efficient mechanism to decrease the amount of potential data
loss.
During the course of normal operations, Exchange Server utilizes a transaction
log to track all of the modifications performed within a database. This log
ensures both that the database is able to recover when abruptly interrupted
(such as a loss of power) and that users are able to undo (or "rollback" in
database lingo) the results of a database transaction. Unfinished
transactions are maintained in the log before they are permanently stored
(or "committed") in the database. Backing up the transaction log enables us
to restore copies of the database's transaction log in the event of a
catastrophe.
Disaster Recovery for
Exchange -
That's the Discipline
The proper discipline of database
and transaction log backups results in a disaster recovery model where no
more than an hour's data should be lost after a catastrophic event with a
minimal impact on system performance. With the speed, accuracy, and
reliability that DataForce is able to perform backups and restorations, this
service is crucial for any business that depends on their Exchange Server.
